You might ask : Can I take 4 years of band and meet the necessary graduation requirements? YES, YES, YES!!
Registering for high school is an exciting time. Meeting graduation requirements, taking desired electives and advanced placement classes, and participating in musical organizations are all common concerns of every eighth grade student. Making good decisions now will ensure the student’s interest in learning, exposure to career and college choices, and placement with students of like interests and abilities. We believe that all 8th grade band students should participate in a music education throughout his/her high school career. Music education plays a vital and crucial role in molding young lives. A recent survey of fortune 500 executives found that nearly 80% of them had participated in music classes while in school! The schedule at Kell makes it easy for all students to participate in band for four years, while also experiencing other elective classes.
BLOCK SCHEDULING
With the block schedule, students have more opportunities to take elective classes. A sample high school student schedule on block is as follows:

Fall Semester

Spring Semester
The block schedule consists of 4 classes, 90 minutes each with a 30 minute lunch. Because each class is 90 minutes, this allows courses that usually took one full year to complete on the traditional schedule, to be completed in a semester on the block schedule. Thus, allowing more time devoted to elective classes. By the student’s 10th grade year, they will have twice the opportunity to take elective classes on the block schedule, than on the traditional schedule, while continuing in the band program. This is a major bonus for all band students! We strongly encourage all 8th grade band students to give the high school band experience a try!
We hope to see you next year as a member of the Kell High School Band!
